Teri Taton Knapp

GATE Coordinator

Teri Taton Knapp has worked for the Guam Department of Education since 1979. She became a part of the Gifted and Talented Program when she was the GATE Teacher at MU Lujan. In 1981 she piloted the first Middle School Gifted Program at Agueda Johnston before becoming the GATE Coordinator in 1985. She expanded the GATE Visual and Performing Arts Program to include the visual and performing arts enrichment classes, the GATE All-Island Honor Choir and the Secondary Theatre Arts Program. She continues to be an advocate of the gifted and talented students on Guam. Her love of providing opportunities for children extends beyond the Department of Education as she is the director of the SKIP Entertainment Dance Company. Through this organization, she has assisted many of Guam's students in pursuing a career in dance. In addition, she has coordinated numerous dance productions on Guam, by off island artists, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gregg Russell, Wats on Dance, the Massashi Action Machine, the San Francisco Jazz Dance Company among others. Teri is married to a very supportive husband and the mother of three sons.
